The first step in professional bed bug pest control is an inspection.

What do bed bugs look like?
Bed bugs are small brownish insects that can be found in the seams of mattresses and box springs, in upholstered furniture, along baseboards and in cracks and crevices. A bed bug infestation may or may not be visible to the naked eye; but it’s important to know what to look for when. The best way to do this is with a magnifying glass or loupe (a handheld magnifying glass).
Bedbugs are flat, oval-shaped insects about 1/4 inch long when they first hatch out as nymphs. They grow as they mature into adults–the size of an apple seed when full grown.
How can I tell if I have a bed bug problem?
- You can tell if you have a bed bug problem by looking for bites on your skin. You should also check for signs of infestation in the places where they like to hide: under your mattress and box spring, around the edges of furniture and baseboards, behind headboards and picture frames.

What do I do if I think I might have bed bugs?
If you suspect that your home may have an infestation of bed bugs, the first thing to do is call an exterminator. At Killroy, we can help you determine whether or not it’s necessary to take action.
If you find evidence of bed bugs in your home, there are steps that can be taken to ensure they don’t spread throughout the building:
- Wash and dry clothing at high temperatures (120 degrees Fahrenheit) for at least 20 minutes before storing it in sealed containers.
- Use a vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter bag or other type of fine filter bag when cleaning carpets and upholstery; these traps will catch any live insects as well as their eggs before they become adults.
